A Letter From Jimmy L.
Date: November 15th, 2015
Dear Friends at the 12-24 Club,
I found your new website and really liked it. Especially like the sharing page. I would like you to consider my brief story for publication on your site;
I was a manager for a large oil company and worked in Casper from 2001 until 2003. I had been drinking heavy for about 10 years and it was beginning to have some real health problems and yet I continued to drink. I did fairly well hiding it from my employer but not my family. In the spring of 2000 my wife and I separated due to my drinking and then the drinking accelerated terribly. I transferred to Wyoming and hoped that the move might allow me to drink normally. Not so. By Christmas I was a wreck. On New Year ’s Day of 2002 I ended up at the ER and admitted to the hospital with Pancreatitis and Dehydration. 2 days later a couple of guys showed up to talk to me. They were alcoholics who had sobered up.
When I was released from the hospital I went with one of the guys to the 12-24 Club for a cheeseburger and a meeting. For the next year and a half I continued to go to meetings and have remained sober. The Club also gave me a place to meet new friends and it helped me with loneliness.
I now live and work in Pennsylvania. I will be 13 years sober on New Year’s Day and my life is better than ever. I am grateful for the 12 Steps, a God in my life and my fellow alcoholics. When I get back to Wyoming I look forward to visiting the 12-24 Club and my friends there.
