A Letter From Kassidy
Date: November 30th, 2015
My name is Kassidy. I made a decision to be clean & sober on May 6, 2015. My experience with the 12-24 Club started in June. I started my road to recovery in this building where I attended meetings and also meetings elsewhere but the club became my safe zone.
It was difficult for me to feel comfortable especially around people that I didn’t know. I found the people at the club inviting and I was able to open up and as time passed I was part of it all. In July I went to Dan’s office and asked about a job. He sent to to see Carrie and I filled out an application. I started work at the Fresh Start Café on July 13th at the front counter. My Birthday was July 14 and Dan asked if I wanted a short version of Happy Birthday. I said yes and he got on one knee and sang it to me. Later the whole crew sang it as well and we had ice cream. Being fresh in recovery I was timid and unsure. After this I felt more comfortable around the staff and people here, more so than with my own family and friends.
In recovery it is important to be around people that you can trust and just be me. I feel that these folks are part of my family. As I said this is my safe zone and I enjoy seeing people making good and healthy choices in their lives.. I don’t know if I would have made it without the club. I have plans to go back to school and I have a chance at a new life.
