A Letter From Amanda
Date: December 22nd, 2015
Hi There. My name is Amanda and I am an addict/alcoholic. I have been coming to the 12-24 Club since December of 2013.
When I first started coming to the meetings here it was out of convenience-not going to lie. I entered a program called adult Drug court and was required to go to 3 meetings a week. Since Drug court is just downstairs from the meetings it just made sense. In February the kitchen manager at the club hired me to work the front counter. I was on cloud 9! After a while it became easy to go to more meetings than required. I was surrounded by recovery. The people I met at the club and in the 12 step meetings both inspired me and taught me that recovery was a way of living.
In October of 2014 I relapsed and pulled away from the 12-24 Club community. I went back to jail and then on to treatment. When I graduated from treatment I came back to the club. I was scared. Afraid that the people I had lied to would turn their back on me. What I found was warmed my heart forever. I was welcomed back with open arms.
This group of people, these drunks and druggies helped me through my first days back to society. I got a job almost right away. I was encouraged, loved and lifted up at my lowest time. I don’t know what I would have done without the 12-24 Club and the people within its walls. I will always be grateful and have a special place in my heart for this place that I call home.
